South Wales Police is appealing for information following an armed robbery of a Post Office on Fox Street in Treharris.
The incident occurred on Thursday (December 2) some time between 5.15pm and 6pm.
As the postmaster was closing up the premises for the day, a male knocked the door and forced his way in as it was opened. He threatened the postmaster with what he claimed was a firearm.
The postmaster was then tied-up by the male who proceeded to make off with a large quantity of cash and the postmaster’s vehicle, a black BMW registration M17 VJL, which was parked in the car park of the nearby Navigation Hotel.
Officers are looking for a male who is described as being approximately six feet four inches tall with dark eyes, and was wearing a black zip-up jacket with white writing to left side, what was possibly a scarf which covered most of his face, and a black woolly hat. He was also carrying a large black sports holdall.
Detective Constable Kevin Barry, from Merthyr CID, said: “This was a nasty incident which we are taking very seriously. The victim was hit to the head during the incident and sustained a minor injury for which he required hospital treatment, and has been left extremely shaken by what happened. An incident like this is very rare for the area, and we are keen to speak to anybody who may have information about who is responsible, or who may have noticed something suspicious.”
