A playground in Tremorfa, Cardiff was refurbished in less than twenty four hours last weekend in a joint project between the city’s young people, volunteers and Council staff called ‘Love Tremorfa’. Community volunteers from local churches provided the bulk of the manpower with the Council providing additional staff as well as the necessary tools and materials.
Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Bob Derbyshire, said: “The playground looks fantastic. It’s a credit to everyone involved on the day and I’d like to thank them for giving up their time so generously and for all the hard work they put in. It’s great to see our communities getting involved, working in partnership with the council to create a better environment for residents to live in.”
The ‘Love Tremorfa’ project was run in partnership with Ignite (Big Ideas), a local charity established in 1995 to work with young people. The charity has already led two major projects in Cardiff including the Street Pastors programme.
The work carried out on the day included cutting back overgrown brambles, clearing litter and repainting playground equipment.
