Treorchy Teens Call The Tunes

Treorchy teens are calling the tunes at the next Club Fusion Disco when they take on the challenge of acting as DJs for the night.

Four youngsters who participate in Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Services For Young People e3+ programme are plugged into sound for the major event.

For the past year the young people have been brushing up on their DJ skills with Martin ‘DJ Dibble’ Harding at Treorchy Comprehensive’s after-school provision.

Now it’s time for them to display their talents to a wider audience by leading the Club Fusion Disco at Rhondda Sports Centre for fellow students who follow the e3+ programmes in Treorchy and Tonypandy

And the evening isn’t just about enjoying themselves and entertaining others because they’ll also gain further experience towards attaining an Open College Network qualification in the activity.

The four young people taking part are Owen Thomas, Ethan Jones, Alex Ball and Henry Davies who have been devoted members of the DJ skills workshop – one of the most successful activities in the Treorchy Services For Your People e3+ scheme.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning Cllr Eudine Hanagan said: “The young people have fully engaged themselves in the DJ skills workshop which explains why this is one of the most over-subscribed.in the entire programme.

“I’m sure that their many months of hard work and enjoyment will pay dividends when they perform for many of their friends at the Club Fusion Disco. This will provide them with a perfect opportunity to showcase their talent.

“The amount of extra-curricular activities available to young people in the County Borough is exceptional and I applaud all the hard work being undertaken in the Council’s Services For Young People.”

Club Fusion Discos, which are run in conjunction with RCT Community Safety Partnership and South Wales Police, are an ideal way of giving young people a safe and secure place to spend their time having fun and see their friends on Friday evenings.

The lead body on the Treorchy and Tonypandy Club Fusion event is the Llwynypia and Ystrad Communities First Activity and Events Subgroup. The funding to begin the events just over a year ago was granted to the group from the WCVA Communities First Trust Fund.
