TRH the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall to attend Cardiff Armed Forces Day

TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will show their support for Armed Forces Day 2010 by attending the national event in Cardiff.

On Saturday June 26th Cardiff will host the UK national event. A full programme of events are planned including a Parade through the City, and in Cardiff Bay a Drumhead Service, fly past by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, military displays, a dynamic air display and an evening concert featuring The Soldiers and Only Men Aloud.

The aim of Armed Forces Day is to celebrate past, present and future service personnel including cadets. Those who have lost their lives will also be remembered.

TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will lead the parade from Cardiff Castle to the Bay.  We are encouraging members of the public to ‘Show Support’ for the Armed Forces by lining the parade route.  The parade will step off from Cardiff Castle and will proceed along High Street, St Mary Street and along Lloyd George Avenue to the final destination of Roald Dahl Plass.

When the parade arrives in the Bay, The Prince will receive the salute from troops on parade from a dais situated outside the Wales Millennium Centre.  Once the salute is received His Royal Highness will attend the Drumhead service at Roald Dahl Plass.

During the day The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will meet veterans, cadets and current service personnel.

Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Keith Hyde, said: “It’s a great honour that TRHs The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will attend Armed Forces Day in Cardiff. It’s very fitting that The Prince of Wales will attend the first UK National Armed Forces Day to be held in Wales. A great programme is planned for both the day and night.”

Armed Forces Day project director Pam Healy, said:

“We are delighted that TRHs The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will lead the parade in Cardiff. Hundreds of Service men and women from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force will make an impressive sight as they march from the castle to the bay. The parade will grow in size as it is joined by veterans and cadets. A fantastic opener to what promises to be a great day out.”

“Our aim is to make the day an occasion that Cardiff and the whole of Wales can be proud of. I would encourage people from across Wales and beyond to show their support for Armed Forces Day 2010.”
