Trees from Flintshire’s premier country park are being sold as firewood to help a local project which supports adults with learning disabilities.

Rangers from Wepre Park remove trees as part of their ongoing woodland management and logs are given to Tri Ffordd Nurseries, an adult day service.

The nurseries are part of Flintshire County Council’s Community Services and provide day service provision for adults with learning disabilities. The project teaches skills and gives training for work in horticulture, plant management, greenhouse skills and environmental project work. The project runs all year round, and sells hanging baskets in the spring. For the past three years; one of the winter projects has been to sell firewood and kindling.

Five Countryside Service rangers spent a day at the Tri Ffordd recently helping to process the wood.

Councillor Bernie Attridge, Cabinet Member for Environment said:

“This is a great example of council services working collaboratively for the good of the community. There are benefits to the environment and the countryside; training opportunities for adults at Tri Ffordd and a service provided for local residents.”

The public can visit Tri Ffordd by prior arrangement, call 01244 661359 for more information.
