Within minutes of Spain lifting the World Cup Trophy, tributes to the Spanish team have been flooding in to the Welsh Icons news desk.
First off the mark were Denbighshire County council who told us: “Mr Jones’ grandfather was going to fight in the Spanish Civil War but was unable to get there due to his gammy leg”.
Next the Welsh Language Board said: “Spain is a Nation of two languages. We congratulate our Catalan brothers this eveming”.
A spokeswoman from BBC Wales added: “At least we didn’t have to come up with any original programming for the last month”.
Vale of Glamorgan Council said “We are very proud to have Cardiff International Airport in our County and many of the planes go to Spain”.
SA Brains the well know Cardiff brewer added: “Many holiday makers from Wales go to Spain every year and drink beer. We are a brewery and we make beer and so we are pleased a counry that sells beer has won the World Cup”.
An anonymous source at the National Assembly for Wales responded to the new by telling us: “Wales has always had close ties with Spain, I myself have a villa there. In fact many Assembly Members are pushing for us to move the Senedd there in the winter to save on heating costs”.
Finally Derek Brockway the flamboyant BBC Wales weatherman told us: “The rain in Spain falls mainly on the…..”
