The WLGA have paid tribute to Councillor Anthony Christopher, the Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council who died last night following a long battle with Leukaemia.
Having proudly served his community of Aberaman North for over 25 years, Anthony was a passionate and plain speaking supporter of local government who was never afraid to express strong views if it benefitted the communities he served.
The WLGA sends its deepest condolences to Anthony’s family, friends and colleagues. He will be sorely missed.
Councillor Bob Wellington (Torfaen), Leader of the WLGA said:
“Working alongside Councillor Anthony Christopher was both a pleasure and a privilege. He was someone who always contributed fully to our national debates and his commitment to RCT was second to none. Anthony has led the authority through an intensely difficult period when, unfortunately, all councils across Wales have had to reduce services. Anthony was typically honest in warning about the impact that this would have on the communities he championed, and the fact that he did not shy away from these challenges despite his illness was a mark of the man. We have all lost a close colleague and friend, and we pass our sincere condolences to his family and colleagues.”
