It was a triple celebration at Tenovus in Porth this month – when the Deputy Mayor attended to mark the re-opening of the charity shop and landmarks in the lives of two of its dedicated volunteers.
The shop in Hannah Street has been open and serving the community since 1999 and recently had a refit to ensure it had a fresh, inviting look for the customers it so greatly relies upon.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Sylvia Jones was invited to officially re-open the shop and launch a fresh appeal for donations and also for people who could spare a few hours a week volunteering.
He also gave his warmest congratulations to dedicated volunteers Margaret Jones, who turned 90 last month and Pat Hanford, who turned 80, also last month.
Both women live in Porth and have worked at the shop for years, bringing a warm customer focus to Tenovus and helping to raise the much-needed funds for the charity.
Tenovus in Porth is one of the charity’s most popular shops, providing a focal point for the community to come together.
The new layout of the venue has been designed to make it even more welcoming and easy to shop, so people can pick up a bargain and help raise money for Cancer charity.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Sylvia Jones said: “I am keen to do what I can to ensure the profile of such charities is raised.
“People such as Margaret and Pat, who give their time so generously to help others, should be commended for what they do and I, personally, am so proud of what they do.
“I also send them the warmest birthday wishes and hope they can inspire others to give a few hours of their time to help their community and a very worthy cause.”
