Tropical trio make debut at Plantasia

A new trio of tropical animals has arrived in Swansea’s Plantasia attraction just in time for a busy summer.

A Chinese Water Dragon, an Albino Corn Snake and a Californian King Snake are now on display at the Parc Tawe hothouse to thrill visitors over the forthcoming school holidays.

They will join the Cotton-top tamarin monkeys, tropical fish, chameleon, bearded dragons (pictured), python and other animals at the attraction.

School holidays are often the busiest time of the year for Plantasia and a series of events has already been arranged to keep visitors entertained. They include:

  • Animal Antics on August 10, August 11 and August 12: This is an interactive animal handling show with birds of prey. Hawk Talk will allow children to get up close and personal with the birds and learn all about them.
  • Rainforest Roadshows: These will take place on August 24, 25 and 26 and will offer children the chance to find out about life in the rainforest and to touch tribal artefacts, a tarantula and stick insects.

Swansea Council runs Plantasia and, due to popularity, pre-booking for the activities is essential.

Amy Evans, of Penlan, took her children to the Animal Antics sessions last year.

She said: “I took my daughter and one of her friends from school last year and the sessions were fantastic. We’ll definitely be looking to go again this year and the children are already excited.”

Holiday trails will also be on at Plantasia throughout the school holidays where children are encouraged to hunt high and low for clues. Face-painting and fun tattoo activities are being arranged for Sundays.

Claire Riordan, Plantasia Manager, said: “Last year was a record year for us with many thousands of visitors coming to the venue over the summer holidays alone.

“We’re hoping for a busy summer this year again.”
