Paul Filby, an RNLI volunteer from Criccieth RNLI Lifeboat Station, who has received an award for his work during the flooding in Cockermouth, is to star on the small screen this weekend.
Paul is delighted to have been presented with a Chief Executive’s award in recognition of his valuable contribution to the Flood Rescue Team’s deployment to Cumbria in November. On returning from Cockermouth, he was invited to travel to Workington RNLI lifeboat station to take part in a special programme about the devastation caused by the flooding.
RNLI volunteers were involved in rescuing 200 people during the floods in Cumbria, working closely with other charities and agencies in some of the worst conditions they had ever experienced.
Paul will feature on BBC1’s Songs of Praise at 5pm this Sunday, during a programme in which Sally Magnusson discovers how the community is recovering.
Paul says: ‘It was an honour to be asked to take part in this programme, and a good opportunity to return to the area to see how it is gradually being rebuilt.’
