Cardigan Theatre present a new production of Father’s Day, the warm and touching comedy by popular TV writer Eric Chappell, at Theatr Mwldan on Thursday, May 6 and Friday, May 7.
It is a cold winter’s evening and bitter, irascible divorcee Henry is enjoying a Scotch and some classical music in glorious solitude. He is soon disturbed however, by the unwelcome appearance of his son Matthew bringing with him his new girfriend, the unappealing punk/goth, Christine. Matthew is obviously keen for a reconciliation with his Father, but Henry is quite happy with the way things are and sparks soon fly. This is just the beginning, for who should arrive next but Henry’s ex-wife and Matthew’s mother, Sue. As the cold night wears on Henry and Sue can’t help but rake over the ashes of their seemingly dead relationship and, to their surprise, the faint glow of a new tenderness develops between them. Before long, Henry is facing some important decisions.
Father’s Day is based on Eric Chappell’s hit TV comedy, Home to Roost. Eric also wrote many other comedies, including Rising Damp. Cardigan Theatre’s production, which is directed by Giles Nun, has Marc Owen as Henry Willows, John Williams as his son Matthew, Tina Batterley as Sue, Henry’s ex-wife and Matthew’s Mother, and Samantha Hill as Christine.
Cardigan Theatre recently entered the Pembrokeshire Drama Association one act play competition with The Winter of 1917 by David Campton. Neil James, who played Truepenny won Best Supporting Actor and several others in the cast received very positive and flattering comments from the adjudicator.
Also in rehearsal at present, Sh’mae Sh’mae written by Cardigan Theatre member Huw Baumgartner. Casting is also now complete for Cardigan Theatre’s summer production of Shakers by John Godber.
