Celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of Wrexham’s twinning with Markischer Kreis got off to a glorious start over the weekend. Queen’s Square was transformed on Saturday to celebrate Europe Day, an event held to highlight Wrexham’s twinning agreement.
The event invited local businesses, organisations and charities that are involved in the twinning or reflect either Welsh, Polish or German culture. People got to sample the vibrant and fun atmosphere whilst discovering more about various European countries.
There were also performances from local choirs and various clubs, which was compered by Calon FM.
In March 1970 the Wrexham Rural District Council signed a Twinning agreement with a district in Germany, Kreis Iserlohn, with a view to encourage friendship between the two areas especially for young people. 40 years later the twinning has been taken over by the new Council and is still thriving.
