Two Llangollen schools to get £700,000 makeover

Work will shortly get underway at the shared site of Ysgol Bryn Collen/Ysgol Gymraeg Y Gwernant in Llangollen to extend and internally refurbish areas of the existing school.

Denbighshire is investing £700,000 in the scheme, which will see a new extension to Ysgol Gymraeg Y Gwernant to include a new entrance, foyer, reception, head teachers office, staff room and two new classrooms. Within the existing building the nursery and reception class will be refurbished and new shared toilet facilities will be built.

A newly refurbished classroom will be created for Ysgol Bryn Collen to enable the school to group foundation phase classes. In addition, the project will also include improvements to the main entrance and head teachers as well as an extension to the school’s staff room. The works will also enable the Out of School Club currently located in a mobile unit to occupy a permanent room within the building.

A new ground source heat pump heating system is to be installed to serve the new extension and areas of the existing building, this environmentally friendly and sustainable solution will be the first such system installed in a school within Denbighshire.

All of this work will enable the three mobile units currently located to the front of the site to be removed, significantly improving the appearance of the approach to the schools.

The contract has been awarded to Peter T. Griffiths Ltd. & the scheme demonstrates Denbighshire’s ongoing support and commitment to investing in education in the Llangollen area.
