A children’s hospice charity that serves the Wrexham area has been given a major boost by some of the most caring people in Wales.
The Tŷ Gobaith hospice in the Conwy Valley and the Hope House hospice near Oswestry have received £2,000 between them.
The money was donated by Care Forum Wales (CFW) which represents 500 independent care providers.
They raised the cash with a raffle at the Wales Care Awards which celebrate the skill and dedication of the unsung heroes of social care.
The money was presented by Clive Nadin, the owner of the Abbey Dale Care Home in Colwyn Bay and the CFW representative in Conwy, and Kim Ombler, the co-owner of Quality Care Nursing Home, in Brynsiencyn, on Anglesey, and the North Wales Chair of CFW.
The hospices provide care and support to life-limited children, young people and their families from Shropshire, Cheshire, North and Mid Wales.
Clive said: “A children’s hospice certainly puts everything else into perspective – we really don’t know how lucky we are.
“It’s absolutely superb that we’re donating money to Ty Gobaith and Hope House. They’re wonderful facility for families. I was very impressed on my visit to Ty Gobaith. I found it quite inspirational. There is a real need for facilities like that.
“It is really important that people continue to give money to them because we must make sure that these children are made to feel comfortable, by creating an environment that is as pleasant as possible.”
Kim added: “It’s a very worthy cause. They rely on donations from the public so the proceeds of the raffle have found a very good home.
“Many people might be surprised to learn that the hospice is a very happy place and a wonderful caring environment with brilliant staff.
“It is a much-needed facility. It is really important for parents that the right support and facilities are available if their children become ill.”
The hospice’s Fundraising Manager, Sarah Kearsley-Wooller, was delighted that Care Forum Wales chose to support the work of T Gobaith and Hope House.
She said: “These generous donations will make a significant difference to our work and on behalf of the children and families who will benefit, a heartfelt thank you.
“We rely on voluntary donations to ensure the continuance of our support for families living across North and Mid Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire.
“At both hospices we provide care and support for life- threatened and life limited babies, children and young people.
“Our range of care includes both respite and end of life care at the hospices, together with community support within the families own homes.
“We also provide a comprehensive counselling and bereavement service to families visiting the hospices, as well as within the communities to anyone who has experienced the loss of a child.
“The hospice counselling team also support children who have experienced a traumatic death.”
