Ty Risha Fire Walk

Last week (15th July) staff from the Ty Risha in Bridgend joined pub regulars for a walk over hot coals in a fearless bid to raise funds for charity.

In the mind over matter exercise fire walk instructor David Briscombe helped six walkers cross the embers, which burned at around 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, without pain.

The sponsored fire walk was in aid of the Brains SA Captains Climb, which is raising money for the Stepping Stones appeal at Velindre Hospital. The climb is the brainchild of WRU photographer Huw, who set himself an ambitious £1million fundraising target after his wife was diagnosed with non-smoking related lung cancer. To help him achieve the target Evans has recruited 15 former Welsh rugby captains, along with Warren Gatland, to attempt to summit Mount Kilimanjaro in September.

Mark Power, manager of the Ty Risha, and assistant manager Kevin Grabham took part along with Ogwen Evans from Brains, who will be accompanying the captains on the Kilimanjaro climb in September. Combined they raised more than £1,000 for the appeal.

Ogwen said: “Our sponsors as well as the staff and customers at the Ty Risha really got behind this unusual event. I am so proud to be representing Brains on the Captains Climb and fundraising events such as this will not only help us reach our £1,000,00 target but they will also help keep me motivated during the challenge.”
