UCAC teachers union has announced today that it will be holding a one-day strike on Wednesday 26 March 2014.
School-teacher members of the union will be taking industrial action as part of the union’s dispute with the Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove over teachers’ pay and pensions.
Dilwyn Roberts-Young, UCAC’s Deputy General Secretary said: “Michael Gove has destroyed teachers’ pay structure, and has largely dismantled what was a perfectly sensible and workable pay system. His changes to teachers’ pensions will be damaging, not only to teachers, but to the education system itself.
“We are pleased to be working alongside the NUT on a matter of such importance to teachers all over Wales.”
UCAC will be in talks with Michael Gove over the coming weeks. If good progress is made during the talks, the hope is that a strike can be avoided.
