UCAC to Ballot on Industrial Action

Wales-based education union UCAC today decided to ballot on taking strike action on teachers’ pensions. The decision was made at a meeting of the union’s National Council in Aberystwyth this afternoon.

Elaine Edwards, UCAC’s General Secretary said “It’s clear that the coalition Government in London is determined to attack public sector pensions. These plans represent a threat not only to individual employees’ rights, but also to the public services on which we all rely.”

She went on to explain “UCAC is giving its members the opportunity to send a clear message to the Government by balloting on industrial action. This is not a step we have taken lightly – feelings within the union are running very high on this issue.”
