A Vale of Glamorgan school has been honoured at an annual awards ceremony.
Recognition for Bute Cottage Nursery in Penarth came in the schools’ category of the 16th Understanding Disability Awards organised by the Cardiff and Vale Parents’ Federation.
The awards celebrate the promotion by individuals, schools, groups/organisations and employers of positive attitudes towards people with learning disabilities.
Bute Cottage was represented at the 2009 awards ceremony by learning support assistant Julie Corbett and former pupil Thomas, and headteacher Ceri Hoffrock said: “Staff at Bute Cottage Nursery were delighted to receive this recognition of the support and guidance they provide for the children in their care.
“It is very much a tribute to everyone associated with Bute Cottage, including the governing body and the wider community, who work very hard to ensure that children with disabilities thrive in our fully inclusive environment.”
Vale Mayor Cllr Emlyn Williams, who presented the award to Julie and Thomas, said: “This annual awards ceremony highlights outstanding efforts to involve people with learning disabilities in everyday life. I was thrilled in my civic role to be able to honour Bute Cottage Nursery.”
