Technology normally used to catch people in connection with motoring offences has caught a sex offender suspect.
ANPR – Automatic Number Plate Recognition – was utilised to apprehend the male suspect, who is from the Cheshire area.
The suspect’s vehicle activated an ANPR camera on 1 December while it was travelling into the Powys area. Dyfed-Powys Police Officers then stopped the vehicle, arrested the individual and notified Cheshire Constabulary.
Powys Superintendent Huw Meredith said: “This incident highlights how cross-border collaboration and technology can yield effective outcomes. The innovative ANPR system sends out a clear and robust message to criminals who come to Powys to commit crime.”
