Commenting on the Public Accounts Committee report on Unscheduled Care, Aled Roberts, who is member of the committee said:
“It’s clear that the on-going health reorganisation is causing confusion and uncertainty. No-one can argue that the Welsh Labour Government has handled this reorganisation successfully. Local people are not having their voices heard and plans have not been properly put in place to prepare for the changes.
“Unscheduled care is a huge problem in the Welsh health service. NHS staff work incredibly hard, yet sadly they are being asked to do far too much in very difficult circumstances. For fifteen years, the Welsh Labour Government has completely mismanaged our A&E departments which has led to many people having to wait hours to be seen.
“We found as a committee that serious questions remain with regard to how information on service delivery and patient experience is collated. It is absolutely vital that there is greater consistency and clarity if we are to drive up standards in our NHS.”
