Gay By Degree – Stonewall’s guide profiling all UK universities to show how gay-friendly they are – is essential for all lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) students going through the clearing process this summer. Gay By Degree 2012, supported by Google, provides an overview of how each university may meet their needs.
Chris Dye Stonewall’s Education Officer, said: ‘As lesbian, gay and bisexual students collect their results and look towards the next step in their education, they will want to know they’re applying for a university that will give them the best value for money and will treat them with respect. Since its launch in July, 8,000 people have already benefitted from the 2012 edition of Gay by Degree, which helps LGB students compare how gay-friendly their university choices are. It has also been used by many universities to measure and improve their provision for LGB students.’

Gay By Degree – published online at www.gaybydegree.org.uk – measures each UK university against 10 criteria. These include whether there is a student lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) Society, whether tailored LGB careers advice is offered, whether the university supports its LGB staff and whether policies and practices that counter homophobic bullying and specific events for gay students are in place. New for 2012 is a ‘career spotlight’ section, featuring profiles of 12 recent LGB graduates each working in different sectors.
