The stars were burning bright in Treorchy this week as the V Factor competition came to a glorious end, crowning 4 young people with the auspicious V Factor crown.
The final of the competition was a massive success and even saw X Factor finalist Lloyd Daniels and Jukebox Juniors perform alongside the young people at the Park and Dare Theatre.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Services for Young People and Cultural Services teams, in partnership with Bigfoot Arts and supported by the Heads of the Valleys programme and Capita Symonds, opened the search for the young stars of 2010 back in January via the successful V Factor Competition.
The V Factor competition is a unique talent showcase for young people across Rhondda Cynon Taf with the aim of inspiring young people to develop and showcase their talents.
The young people once again wowed the high profile, celebrity judges – Amy Wadge, Siwan Morris, Richard Mylan, Kate Lewis and guest judge Liara Williams, with their performances on the night in dance, drama, theatrical performance and live music, but only 4 young people could be chosen to wear the crown and become the ambassadors for Rhondda Cynon Taf youth arts during 2010.
The winners were:
- Best Drama – Lucy Andrews – Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun
- Best Dance Act – Unfaced – Ferndale Community School
- Best Theatrical Performance – Lauren Shields – Bryncelynnog
- Best Live Music Act – Emily Ady – Y Pant
Three lucky acts were also awarded the “Outstanding Achievement Award” for their outstanding performances on the night – the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ winners were:
- Rebecca Amy L’Homme (Tonypandy Community College)
- Take Part Performance Crew
- Arwel Rhys Harris (Ysgol Hen Felin)
Some of the winners will now go on to perform in front of thousands of people at “Musical Youth Extravaganza – In Tune With Youth’ Showcase at the Wales Millennium Centre and also be in with a chance to perform at Ponty’s Big Weekend.
Councillor Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, who attended the event said: “The V Factor is an excellent way to showcase the talent we have here in the County Borough and is the culmination of all the activities that take place throughout the year. It is the definitive competition in the calendar with the chance to perform in professional cultural venues up for grabs.
“The standard of the talent I have witnessed has been fantastic and I am incredibly proud of all of the young people involved, including those who have taken part from the very beginning. I am sure that they are all set for successful careers in drama and performing arts. Well done to all those who took part and I look forward to joining some of them at the Wales Millennium Centre in October.”
