Vale Mayor raises thousands for charity

The retiring Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Councillor Emlyn Williams, was busy with charity events during his year of office and raised a whopping £18,729.42.

£2,328.82 was raised for the Alzheimer’s Society, £3,883.44 for the Cardiff & Vale Breastfriends Support Group, £4,886.97 for the National Coastwatch Institution at Nell’s Point and £6,124.55 for various local charities through the fortnightly coffee mornings held in the Civic Office.

The Mayor’s Charity Ball at Dyffryn Gardens raised just under £4,000 and Cllr Williams thanked several companies for their generous contributions – Washington Gallery, The Vale Hotel, Gift House International, The Royal Mint, Cowbridge Compost, Welsh Rugby Union, Cardiff City Football Club, Davis Langdon, Carillion, HLM, Edwards Geldard and Mr R W Lloyd and all councillors and staff who supported the event.

Cllr Williams said: “This is a fantastic sum to raise for our local charities and we have had some great fun along the way at our fundraising events. I would just like to thank everyone for their support”.
