Vale of Glamorgan: Road conditions, gritting arrangements and refuse/recycling

The current weather situation is the worst for 30 years and, as a consequence, great demand has been placed on Vale of Glamorgan Council resources.

This, together with the severe conditions across the country, has substantially depleted salt stocks and planned deliveries have failed to arrive for a number weeks.

As a result it has been necessary to reduce salting to the critical road network only and this takes effect from Friday evening (8 January).

The roads that will be treated are as follows:

A48
Culverhouse Cross – Waterton Roundabout, Bridgend

A4222
Cowbridge to County Boundary

Additionally, no grit bins will be filled and no roads off the critical road network will be treated. Footways will generally not be treated though all available staff have been tasked with clearing the remaining snow and ice from busy shopping centres. The highways emergency out of hours service continues as normal and the council will respond to all emergency situations.

Motorists are advised to make only absolutely essential journeys, and, if journeys are necessary, to make adequate provision and drive at substantially reduced speeds. If people do need to walk, they are advised to exercise extreme caution and wear suitable footwear as footways can be extremely dangerous.

This current situation is under constant review and should the position change the council will advise accordingly.
