Police are investigating the vandalism of a number of gravestones in St Peters Church Lampeter.
Sometime overnight on Sunday 13th / Monday 14th June over 40 graves have been pushed over. Some have broken in half. An early estimate of the cost to replace the stones is believed to be in the thousands. It may be impossible to replace one due to its age.
3 youths have been arrested in connection with the damage and released on bail pending further police enquiries.
PC Jo Grey said
“This type of criminal damage is very upsetting for the relatives of those buried in the graveyard. People are naturally very angry. Although 3 people have been arrested I would appeal for anyone who has information that could help the investigation to contact Lampeter Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
