Veolia Transport Update

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is continuing to pro-actively work to ensure that the recent announcement made by Veolia Transport causes the minimum impact on its service users.

The announcement made by Veolia Transport to terminate its services from the Treforest Depot will inevitably have an impact on bus service provision across Rhondda Cynon Taf. The Council is currently working with other transport providers to fill the gap that it may cause.

The Council’s role in public transport is to consider any gaps in the bus network that may arise and intervene where routes are considered socially necessary. The Council works with various bus companies to deliver such services within the constraints of available funding.

Veolia Transport have confirmed that it will endeavour to deliver its current transport service until 25th June 2011, which gives the Council and other transport providers time to ensure that disruptions are kept to a minimum and for plans be put in place to source permanent providers.

Veolia Transport does not carry out any Home to School Transport contracts for the Council, so this will remain unaffected.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, Cabinet Member for Transport, Customer Care and Emergency Planning, said: “The Council was disappointed to hear that Veolia Transport is terminating its services out of the Treforest Depot. There may be some short term problems with reliability, however there are several good quality local providers who are known to be interested in running some of the services. The Council’s transport officers are currently working with these operators to ensure that any disruption caused will be kept to a minimum.”
