Mohammad Asghar, National Assembly Member for South Wales East, has joined Welsh Conservative colleagues in urging the Assembly Government to do more to support veterans in Wales.
Welsh Conservatives propose the introduction of a Veterans Card which will provide Wales’ veteran population with prioritised health care, free bus travel and free access to local government leisure facilities.
Mr Asghar said: “It is so important that we never, ever forget the immense sacrifice that our armed forces make for this country.
“Service personnel make tremendous sacrifices, as do their families, who are often left at home while their loved ones are thousands of miles away”.
The Shadow Minister for Heritage & Equality added: “I am very proud of the proposals put forward by the Welsh Conservatives.
“A veterans card in Wales would ensure that veterans are given the extra support … they deserve.
“It would provide guaranteed, well-promoted priority access to healthcare, free bus travel and free access to local government leisure facilities.
“The card would provide veterans with a symbol of continuous public recognition and appreciation for the efforts they have made in serving this country”.
