This years ChildLine Challenge event was back with a vengeance last month as it saw more than 120 budding triatheletes take part in the fun Mumbles based event which has been running since 2001 in the locality.
The event took place on Sunday April 25 and starts with a 7km cycle from Knabs Rock in Mumbles, then straight into a 500m swim at the Wales National Pool on Sketty Lane then a run back to Knab Rock car park for 5 km to the finish line.
The event attracted more than 120 participants, many of whom have taken part in the event for a number of years and without whose support the event wouldn’t happen year after year.
This year for the first time, more than 80 staff members from HSBC Direct in Swansea took part in the event as part of their year long commitment to supporting ChildLine. The team raised a phenomenal £4,343 match funded by HSBC making it £8,686 in altogether. Debbie Davies, from HSBC Direct says; “We’re delighted so many of our team chose to support this long running local event, it was such a great day.”
Julie Richards, NSPCC community fundraising manager for the area said: ” A great big thank you to all our participants for taking part in the 2010 ChildLine Challenge and for sending in your sponsorship money. Our thanks must also go to all your friends and family for supporting you and helping to raise these much needed funds.
“Over a 120 people took part in this years’ ChildLine Challenge, the most ever, and for us it was a fabulous morning, starting with the good weather conditions and meeting you all. There was a really good atmosphere and it seems that everyone had a wonderful time and we’re on course to smash our initial target of £10,000.
Event Organiser Catherine Walsh, co-owner of Patricks with Rooms told us: “We could not achieve this without your contribution and the funds raised by this event will help support the important work of ChildLine across Wales and the rest of the UK. So, once again thank you very much on behalf of all the children and families that we can help because of your support.
“We are already working on next year’s event and we are planning for it to take place on Sunday, 10th April, 2011, more details to follow in local press so keep an eye out and we hope to have even more participants joining us.
