Whether it’s undertaking a beach clean up, repairing dry stone walls, clearing invasive species or managing important wildlife habitats – there are plenty of opportunities to take part in practical conservation work in the Anglesey countryside.
Anglesey’s Countryside and AONB Service is looking for volunteers who are willing to spend a few hours every now and again to help with vital conservation work at some of the most special sites on the Island.
ANOB Community Warden, Rhys Thomas, explained, “The Anglesey coastline is a rich and distinctive landscape, and has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) since 1967. Volunteers are needed to help with various tasks that will conserve and enhance the qualities that make the AONB such a special place.
“If you are looking for a fresh challenge this New Year, then volunteering in the countryside might be what you’re looking for. It’s a great way to get out and about, keep fit and active, meet new people, have fun and help care for the Anglesey AONB landscape. Volunteering in the countryside can be incredibly satisfying, and it’s also a great opportunity to work in beautiful locations across Anglesey.”
The AONB volunteer programme for the coming months includes work at Aberlleiniog, Porth Cwyfan, South Stack and Holyhead Breakwater Country Park.
Planning and Environment portfolio holder, Councillor Bob Parry OBE, stressed, “The work undertaken by volunteers is always highly valued and, in most cases, may not otherwise have been able to be accomplished.”
“Volunteers are always free to work at their own pace and the atmosphere is relaxed and fun. It doesn’t matter how much previous experience of conservation work you have, if any, as staff are always on hand to show you the ropes. It’s also a great opportunity to gain new skills and experience.”
