Residents in Caerphilly county borough can vote for their favourite Gren characters to take pride of place in the popular cartoonist’s home village.
Grenfell Jones – or Gren as he is better know to his legions of fans – was a Welsh institution whose popular cartoons of valleys folk entertained the nation for almost 40 years.
The council plans to commemorate his life and work by creating a unique ‘Gren Way’ walking route in and around Hengoed. The route will cross the imposing viaduct that spans the valley and a series of artwork pieces reflecting Gren’s many hilarious characters can be developed along the walk too.
Funding for the first pieces of artwork has been made available through the Valleys Regional Park, which is an exciting, dynamic initiative to plan, coordinate and deliver activities related to the environment, heritage and tourism across the valleys of South Wales, and with the aid of European Regional Development fund grant aid.
The activities are being marketed through the Valleys Heart and South Campaign.
They want you to choose the designs!
Vote for your favourite THREE characters from the eight options which you can view on the Flickr Gren gallery.
