Communities across Wales are set to benefit from more than £7 million funding thanks to the Welsh Assembly Government’s Community Facilities and Activities Programme (CFAP).
Social Justice and Local Government Minister, Carl Sargeant today announced that £7,114,207 funding would be shared between 46 projects across Wales. The funding will go to community and voluntary organisations to help support the creation of new facilities and services.
The Minister made the announcement at Treuddyn Village Hall which has been awarded over £126,000 to build an extension and refurbish the hall to provide a much needed meeting place for the community. He met with the representatives of the community association to see how the money will improve the Village Hall and benefit the Treuddyn community.
Since its launch in 2002, CFAP has received a growing volume of applications each year as it continues to help community and voluntary organisations provide facilities or carry out activities which will promote the regeneration of communities.
Speaking at the event, Carl Sargeant said:
“The Community Facilities and Activities Programme is making a real, tangible difference to community and voluntary groups at a grass roots level. It is wonderful that so many of the projects from earlier grants have now come to fruition, and I am certain that the funding I’ve announced today will further contribute to the regeneration of many communities throughout Wales, like Treuddyn. The community here offers many excellent activities and I am confident that with this money will provide a facility to match its needs.
“Grants can range from a few thousand pounds to install a CCTV system to secure a local snooker club, to much larger grants of several hundreds of thousands of pounds to build a new community centre. Whether a small or large amount, CFAP funding has a beneficial impact upon Welsh communities and the day to day lives of local people.”
