Alongside Sain Records, Wales Arts International is hosting the Wales Reception at Showcase Scotland 2010, which will include performances from Lleuwen Steffan and Gwenan Gibbard.
Brought to you by Celtic Connections and the Scottish Arts Council, Showcase Scotland is hosting its 11th annual event during Celtic Connections 2010. This year the focus will be on artists from Norway as well as Scotland.
During the showcase, Wales Arts International will be developing new international leads, contacts and opportunities for musicians and the music sector from Wales, while promoting the ‘World Music from Wales’ publication which was created in 2008. The publication is used to promote Welsh world music and is distributed in festivals such as WOMEX, Celtic Connections and SXSW. A matching USB stick with tracks from leading Welsh musicians, as well as other useful information about music in Wales, accompanies the directory.
Chief Executive for Sain Records, Dafydd Roberts, said:
“Sain Records is extremely grateful to receive the opportunity to work with Wales Arts International at the 2010 Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow. Giving artists the opportunity to perform to an influential international audience is very valuable, not only for the company and the artists but to raise the profile of contemporary traditional music from Wales on an international stage.
“Gwenan Gibbard and Lleuwen Steffan are very experienced artists who have long been performing abroad. I hope that more performances develop from this opportunity.”
In October 2009, Wales Arts International and Welsh Music Foundation created a CD of Music from Wales which was distributed during WOMEX 2009 and will be promoted during Celtic Connections 2010. Both the CD and ‘World Music from Wales’ publication will serve as a guide for international producers, promoters and curators to develop their knowledge about the world music genre in Wales.
During the festival, Wales Arts International aims to forge strong links with the music sector within Wales and internationally, while increasing the awareness of and the interest in traditional and world music in Wales.
Showcase Scotland has become the largest international gathering of the music industry in Scotland. It introduces international and worldwide audiences to new music and it aims to secure performances for Scottish based artists on a global scale. Showcase Scotland is hosted as part of Celtic Connections and it takes place from the 27th-31st of January 2010 in Glasgow.
