The sun shone last weekend for a celebration of biodiversity at the Gnoll Country Park in Neath.
For the third year running, a special ‘Our Nature’ event was organised to coincide with the International Year of Biodiversity 2010.
Children and parents joined in some fun activities such as making bird feeders, bat and bumblebee hats as well as a giant mixed leaf tree.
There was lots to learn about bees, minibeasts and moths and to add to the fun Henson the Hedgehog and Ecobunny joined in. In the evening a bat walk was led by the Glamorgan Bat Group.
The event, funded by the Countryside Council for Wales, was organised by the Neath Port Talbot Biodiversity Forum and was supported by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales, Swansea and District Beekeepers Society and South Wales Police.
Council Leader, Ali Thomas, said, “The Council is pleased to support and promote biodiversity in Neath Port Talbot through events like this where children can learn about the natural world around them in a fun way.
“They are much looked forward to events and are proving to be hugely popular.”
Another event is planned for the summer holidays (5th August) at Margam Park.
