Denbighshire County Council is gearing up to welcome one of the most prestigious events in the rallying calendar to the county in November.
Organisers of Wales Rally GB are venturing into Denbighshire and the rally will visit Clocaenog Forest near Ruthin on Thursday, November 14 (night time) after leaving Conwy Quay and taking in the Gwydir and Penmachno stages.
The second visit to Denbighshire will be on Sunday, November 17. Competitors will visit the Dyfnant forest before travelling through Clocaenog for a second time before the competitors race towards the finishing line in Llandudno. (There will also be a re-fuelling stop in Corwen).
Four-days of competitive action will feature a more compact route with the majority of the timed Special Stages set in the classic Welsh forests. Adding to the overall appeal both night and family-friendly spectator stages are being reintroduced into the itinerary and fans will be offered a wider range of tickets at significantly lower prices than before.
Leader of Denbighshire County Council, Councillor Hugh Evans OBE said: “We are delighted that the Wales Rally GB is returning to Denbighshire and we are expecting thousands of people to descend on Clocaenog to see some of the leading names in the rally business taking part. We sincerely hope that the people of Denbighshire and surrounding areas will come and lend their support to this stage.
“Denbighshire and indeed the rest of North Wales are fast earning a name as a place to host major events. The Etape Cymru and the Tour of Britain are examples of two major events staged in the county in recent times. We have the natural resources for this kind of event . We now need to show competitors a warm Welsh welcome in Denbighshire and show the events industry that Denbighshire is ready to do business.”
