Warren Gatland’s 2010 RBS Six Nations Wales squad will appear first online at www.wru.co.uk at 12.55pm on Monday 18th January.
The official Welsh Rugby Union website will carry the news of which players have made Gatland’s third Championship squad as well as a detailed video interview with the man at the helm of Welsh rugby, before any other outlet.
“The WRU website produces a wide range of news and feature material in video, audio and written versions on a daily basis and our webmaster would normally follow a squad announcement alongside the rest of our media partners,” said WRU head of communications John Williams.
“On this occasion we are taking the extra step of ensuring our website is first with the news in video format.
“We are testing the water to see if we can increase traffic and make more and more Welsh rugby fans aware of the services on offer at wru.co.uk.
“Our online resources are growing and growing and frequent visitors to our site will already have seen a steady increase in video content alongside the staple diet of written and audio news.
“Warren’s selection and his associated thoughts will still be sent far and wide around the world, but on this occasion fans are being offered the chance to get the news straight from the horse’s mouth and we are expecting the initiative to be extremely popular.
“Welsh rugby is always seeking ways to speak directly to its supporters and we intend to continue to utilise today’s technological advancements in order to achieve that aim.”
