Walking in memory of Jon

On 11 September, more than 50 friends and colleagues of the late Jon Conick will be pounding the streets of Torfaen, walking from Blaenavon to Cwmbran, to raise money for the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff.

Jon Conick was employed by Torfaen County Borough Council and was the life and soul of the workplace. When he lost his fight with cancer on the 20 June 2009 at the age of 29, he was being treated at Velindre Cancer Centre.

Andy Wilson, one of Jon’s colleagues and friends has been organising the walk; “Jon was a much loved and sorely missed colleague of many of us. Velindre Cancer Centre treated and cared for Jon throughout his illness. We wish to do something in return for the dedicated staff to raise valuable funds to help continue the much needed work for cancer patients in south Wales.”

Kylie Parfitt, Deputy Head of Fundraising at Velindre said: “We are extremely grateful to Andy Wilson for organising this very special walk in memory of Jon. We would like to urge everybody around the areas of the walk and beyond to come out and support them! The money raised from this walk will help Velindre to continue to deliver the best possible service to cancer patients and their families”.

The walk will take place at 9am on the 11 September, starting from Big Pit and walking the length of the borough to finish at the Three Blackbirds Inn, Llantarnam.

Anyone is welcome to join the walk and help raise funds for Velindre Cancer centre or just come along and support on the day.
