Cardiff Trading Standards are warning residents about a scam letter from a person claiming to be a war veteran.
People should be vigilant of the letters which request the recipient to agree to receiving a large sum of money in return for private and sensitive information.
The perpetrator claims to be serving for the ‘United Nations Troop’ in Afghanistan and is in possession of $16.2million which he wants to circulate to Europe.
Deputy Leader of Cardiff Council and Executive Member for Housing, Communities and Social Justice, Cllr Judith Woodman said:
“This scam is particularly insensitive and distasteful.
“The bogus person behind the scam is deliberately setting out to make people pity them.
“Residents should never divulge private or sensitive information and if received the letters should be destroyed immediately.”
