Police in Pontypridd are appealing for information following the theft of tiles from Glantaf Community Infants School in Rhydyfelin.
Approximately 30 Welsh slate tiles have been stolen from the school hall roof and rainfall since the theft has caused significant damage to the building.
Officers believe a ladder must have been used to steal the slates over the past few days while the school has been closed for the Easter Holidays, and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Inspector Nigel Griffiths, said: “Those responsible have absolutely no regard for anyone or anything and they deserve to be caught.
“The irony is that they may well be from the Rhydyfelin community with links to somebody who has children at the school.
“Somebody knows exactly who is responsible, and I am urging them to get in touch, anonymously if they prefer.
“We also want to hear from anyone who may have seen people acting suspiciously in the area over the past week or so,” he added.
If anyone has any information they can contact South Wales Police via 101 or call Crimestopeprs anonymously on 0800 555 111.
