Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council’s Highway’s Department recently worked in partnership with Dwr Cymru Welsh Water to prevent homes within the County Borough being left without clean water during the period of extreme bad weather which we have all being experiencing.
The gritting teams cleared specific routes to allow Welsh Water to make a delivery to the water treatment works at Ponsticill which allows residents within the County Borough to have access to clean, fresh water.
Dwr Cymru Welsh Water Operations Director, Peter Perry, said: “Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council has been vital in helping Dwr Cymru Welsh Water maintain the high level of drinking water quality supplied to thousands of homes and customers across the County Borough. With many water treatment works situated on B and even unnamed roads, Merthyr Tydfil Council has prioritised both the clearing of snow and gritting access road surfaces during these severe weather conditions which are essential in ensuring that we continue to provide a supply of clean drinking water to our customers.”
Deputy Leader of the Council, and Portfolio Member for Customer Community Services, Councillor Tony Rogers said: “There is no doubt in my mind that our teams would do whatever necessary to ensure services within the County Borough run as efficiently as possible, and that inconveniences and difficulties that residents may experience are kept to an absolute minimum, particularly during times of inclement weather. The efforts of the men and women who work hard for the Council throughout the year and in particular, during such periods of disruption, occasionally goes unnoticed. It is important that it is recognised when such dedication and commitment is displayed, which leads to such positive outcomes.”
