Surfing, Kayaking and Lifesaving are just a few of the many exciting water based activities taking place in Neath Port Talbot. Neath Port Talbot Council has recognised the growing popularity of such activities and recently produced a Water Sports Guide for the area.
The guide highlights the different water sports that take place in the County and shows a list of accredited activity providers, encouraging local people and visitors to take part (and get wet!). The guide also provides vital safety information relating to water based activity and stresses the importance of caring for our natural environment.
Neath Port Talbot Council obtained funding for the guide through the ‘Splash’ Water Recreation Challenge. ‘Splash’ is a Welsh Assembly Government fund to promote access to water and water based activity within Wales.
Council Leader Ali Thomas stated “Neath Port Talbot is continually developing as a destination for outdoor activity. We are blessed with beautiful lakes, rivers and an accessible coastline. The Water Sport Guide shows residents and visitors where they can take part in the various activities”.
Ceri Morgan, from Environment Agency Wales, said:
“The Splash fund aims to give everyone the opportunity to get out there and enjoy the fantastic rivers, lakes and coastal areas we have in Wales.
“People can go gorge walking, fishing, sailing, canoeing, rowing, diving or just have a day out at the beach. This fund aims to make the most of the naturally beautiful countryside we have and recognises that while we encourage greater participation in outdoor activity we must protect the environment that provides it.”
