This May the Night Out scheme from Arts Council of Wales and Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company are bringing a little bit of the life on the ocean wave to some Communities First venues in the south Wales valleys and north Cardiff.
Across the Deep Blue Sea is a fantastic aquatic adventure for anyone aged three and above, featuring a tiny boat, a little lost man and the great wide ocean. The show includes a delightfully fishy cast of singing whales, pestering pirates and other oceanic inhabitants, even famous maritime explorer Jacques Cousteau – or someone very like him, all of which spout from the wonderful imagination of performer and creator Marc Parrett.
Hopefully, answers to questions like: How did the little man get there? How can he get home? And why do those fish keep biting him on the bottom?! will be found but if not children and grown-ups alike can just sit back and delight in this joyful, slightly bonkers combination of puppetry, physical theatre and just the odd squirt of water.
Hilary Farr, Night Out Development Officer said, “Across the Deep Blue Sea has enchanted theatre goers throughout the UK in the last few months and we are just thrilled that Night Out can help introduce new audiences to its gentle whimsy. Children will be captivated and adults will adore it”.
The show will be sailing into Trinant Community Centre, Crumlin on Saturday 15th May at 3pm and then, after a day’s shore leave will be mooring at the Abercwmboi Royal British Legion Club near Aberdare on Monday 17th May at 6pm. Cruising across to the Park Place Chapel in Georgetown, Tredegar for a performance on Tuesday 18th May at 7pm the show will briefly dock at Phillipstown Primary School, New Tredegar on Wednesday 19th May at 6pm before finally anchoring at Windsor Clive Primary School, in Ely, Cardiff on Thursday 20th May at 4.30pm.
