As part of the plan to streamline and improve the city’s household waste and recycling centre (HWRC) provision, the Waungron Road site will close on the 27th April.
The plan will see residents benefit from 2 ‘super sites’ later in the year at Bessemer Close and a new site on Wedal Road offering state-of-the-art waste disposal facilities with more staff on site to help the public place their unwanted items in the correct containers to help boost recycling rates.
Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Bob Derbyshire said, ‘Current data shows that our household waste and recycling centres (HWRC) sites are only operating at 50% capacity with opening times not meeting customer demand while operating costs remain high with significant periods of unplanned closures. By reducing to 2 super sites, we will greatly increase our ability to encourage the re-use of materials, recycle more of what you dispose of and control unauthorised users.’
Regular users of the Waungron Road site can access our website at www.cardiff.gov.uk/waste for further details of the closest site at Bessemer Close, our largest and most modern HWRC.
Cllr Derbyshire added, ‘Our plan will provide the most modern, best value and user friendly facilities for residents at two convenient locations in Cardiff, providing excellent opportunities to re-use and recycle more of our waste and meet ever-increasing Welsh Government targets.’
