It can be hard to occupy children over the school holidays but at Pentwyn Leisure Centre there is a whole host of fun activities taking place to entertain them over the summer.
The centre is running Active Camps for kids and with a few weeks of the summer holidays still to go, there is something to suit everyone.
For those aged 8 and over who like to make a splash, there’s an aqua camp offering a variety of water activities and games such as ‘walk the plank’, flume riding and water polo. The camp is free as part of the Welsh Assembly Government free swimming initiative.
There’s a chance to be part of the Dodgeball revolution when children can learn the rules and moves of this fast moving ball game and finish the week with ‘Fancy Dress Friday’.
Also on offer are a basketball camp to improve game skills and fitness with coaching provided by Cardiff Capitals and the Pentwyn Academy Performing Arts (PAPA) camp to give budding little stars a taste of stage school and boost confidence.
Other Active Camps include cheerleading, World Cup footy, dance and street dance, rookie lifesaving and new this year is the 2020 cricket camp.
The activities give children the opportunity to learn new skills and play in a fun and friendly environment whilst being safe and fully supervised. Each Active Camp runs for two hours each day for a week. They require pre-booking and spaces are limited.
Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: “It can be difficult for parents during school holidays to keep the children occupied. These camps are perfect for keeping them active and healthy as well as broadening their abilities. They cover lots of different sports and activities and are great value for money.”
The cost is just £13.25 for each week and some age restrictions will apply to different activities.
Camps run during different weeks of the summer period until Friday September 3rd, but are proving very popular, so please contact the centre to be certain of your place by pre-booking.
