Four Welsh Councils recognised by Excellence Wales for delivering good quality, affordable housing shared their best practice at a Welsh Local Government Association seminar for housing professionals, in Swansea yesterday.
Jocelyn Davies, the Deputy Minister for Housing and Regeneration, who opened the seminar said:
“This year, the Excellence Wales examples of good practice in housing services, where local authorities work together with partner organisations, gives me great confidence that housing services are continuing to deliver very valuable services despite challenging economic times.”
“The pressures on housing services will not reduce, and the more we collaborate, share experiences and learn from each other, the more we will be able to ensure that we continue to deliver better homes and better communities for the people of Wales. We can achieve so much more by working together and I am delighted to see that this is being put into practice from day to day across Wales. ”
Cllr John Mason (Blaenau Gwent), WLGA Deputy Spokesperson for Environment, Sustainability & Housing said:
“Excellence Wales has helped highlight areas where councils are excelling in designing, commissioning or providing services. The scheme doesn’t only identify and reward leading practice, but also seeks to mainstream it. Through the WLGA, we aim to support and share best practice, sharing innovation, expertise and experience within the local government family so that we don’t have to invest time and precious resources reinventing the wheel.”
Carmarthenshire County Council was awarded Excellence Wales Status 2010. Cardiff Council, Conwy County Borough Council and Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council were finalists.
