Welsh Helicopter Rescue

North Wales Police helicopter was first on the scene to help a paraglider who crashed on Snowdon late yesterday afternoon.

The helicopter landed at 16.35pm and two North Wales Police officers on board were able to make an initial assessment of his injuries and administer advanced first aid until the arrival of the RAF helicopter.

The helicopter crew then assisted the RAF in preparing the casualty for winching off the mountain. The paraglider, who was seriously injured, was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd by the RAF Sea King rescue helicopter

Inspector Steve Jones, Air Operation Manager said:

“It was excellent work by all agencies involved. The North Wales Police helicopter was first on the scene and was able to quickly locate the casualty. When we landed we were able to help the Mountain Rescue Team as well as the RAF with an exact location and then look after the casualty until the RAF from Valley arrived. North Wales Police, the RAF and the Mountain Rescue Team worked together and as a result were able to bring the incident to a swift conclusion.”

A full investigation is being carried out by The British Association of Hang Gliding and Paragliding and Air Investigators assisted by North Wales Police officers.
