Three new high quality industrial buildings with the capacity to accommodate more than 100 jobs have been completed on the £7.5million Olympus development in Swansea.
The investment by Welsh Industrial Partnership (WIP) on Swansea Vale’s Central Business Park also includes a 38,000 sq ft purpose designed distribution depot that has been pre-let to City Link.
City Link, one of Britain’s leading premium express delivery companies, has now moved into the new depot.
The remaining terrace of three units- ranging in size from 9,000 sq ft to 15,000 sq ft- are now available for lease or purchase and will be extensively marketed. Set in landscaped grounds the units have achieved one of the highest BREEAM ratings.
WIP is a Joint Venture between The RBS Group and the Welsh Assembly Government established to create high quality industrial accommodation in convergence areas throughout Wales.
The site, which has superb access to the M4, is brought forward for development through a joint venture between Swansea Council and the Welsh Assembly Government.
Cllr Gareth Sullivan, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic and Strategic Development, said: “This is terrific news because the investment will not only open up jobs but will also increase Swansea’s profile as an ideal place for business.
“The area benefits from first class communication links and will prove an attractive proposition to many firms. This is further encouraging news for the local economy.”
Ieuan Wyn Jones, Minister for the Economy and Transport, said WIP was continuing to support businesses based in Wales by investing and developing modern, high quality industrial units.
He said: “It means that companies looking to move into modern facilities to enable them to operate more effectively and more efficiently are able to do so while the availability of high quality units can also attract new investment and new jobs into the area and help stimulate the economy.”
This latest development follows on from a £7.8m investment at Llanelli Gate, which provided a total of 95,000 sq ft of industrial accommodation in a range of different sized units.
The contract for the Olympus development was awarded to Cowlins, part of the Balfour Beatty group and national commercial property consultancy, Lambert Smith Hampton are the appointed agents for the property.
