Welsh PTSD charity gets boost from Nation Radio

Healing The Wounds – the Welsh charity which helps victims of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) – has received a boost from Nation Radio this week.

It has been chosen as the nominated charity for a high-powered campaign on the popular South Wales radio station.

“It’s all geared towards a special ‘Donation Day’ on Nation Radio,” said Healing The Wounds events organiser Amie Phillips.

“The idea is to encourage businesses and local firms to get their staff to make a small contribution to the charity. All we are asking for is that people bring £1 to work.

“It’s a small donation. But, if the Nation Radio appeal gets plenty of support, then it will go a long way towards helping the valuable work we do as a charity.

“Our long-term aim is to establish a residential centre for treating victims of PTSD in Wales.

“But, in the meantime, we are busy treating people who have PTSD. We have built up a team of treatment practitioners and regularly hold treatment courses.

“But there is a great need for more courses as we have a waiting list which is growing. As the charity gains recognition, so we are finding that more people are coming forward asking for help.”

The Nation Radio campaign starts on Monday, December 14, with the main ‘Donation Day’ being on Friday, December 2.

“It’s a very exciting opportunity for us as a charity,” said Healing The Wounds fundraising manager Rachel Phillips.

“There will be some very emotional pieces played on the radio during the course of the campaign and we hope that loads of people out there will want to get involved to help our brave servicemen and servicewomen.

“The focus will be on donating a £1. And people can do that in many different ways. For example, staff and businesses can have a ‘dress down’ Friday, or they can organise fund-raising cake stalls. It really is up them. We want people to enjoy themselves and also raise cash for the charity. Fundraisers will know that the cash will go into helping to treat people who suffer from PTSD.

“The Donation Day itself will be special as we will have our very own Dylan Draig dragon on the road with Nation Radio, collecting donations from various locations in South Wales.”

Nation Radio will be setting up a ‘microsite’ on their website to explain how businesses can get involved and register for the campaign.
