There will be fun for all the family at the West Wales Motorcycle Show this weekend.
The event is being held at the United Counties Showground, Nantyci, Carmarthen, on Saturday and Sunday (August 21 and 22).
As well as dealership, club and trade stands, there will be a selection of classic bikes and cars on show and a range of stunts, displays and attractions in the arena from the world-renowned ‘Risk Club’ to The Flying Gunners (Royal Artillery Motorcycle Display Team) and Messhams Wall of death.
The Hawksdrift Falconry will again be entertaining the crowds and there will be a gun dog display on Sunday by Ffynnongain.
There will also be helicopter flights all weekend and parachute jumps by the Red Devils on Saturday not to mention fair rides and a kiddie’s corner!
The event is organised by The West Wales Motorcycle Show Ltd in association with the Carmarthen and District Motorcycle Club.
Carmarthenshire’s Community Safety Partnership, which includes the council, the police and the fire and rescue service, is also supporting the event.
Road safety is a major priority for the partnership and a lot of work is being carried out to encourage motorists – including motorcyclists – to drive safely.
Latest figures released by the Welsh Assembly Government earlier this month show that the highest number of motorcyclist casualties in 2009 was in Powys (11 per cent of the total) followed by Carmarthenshire, Cardiff, Swansea and Pembrokeshire.
The figures also showed that compared with car collisions, motorcycle casualties were more likely to occur in the spring/summer than in winter and more likely to occur at weekends.
Dyfed-Powys Police road safety officer Susan Storch said: “We are working hard to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured in road traffic collisions.
“In particular, we are working to reduce the number of motorcycle collisions and a number of initiatives are underway to promote safer riding including BikeSafe where police motorcyclists pass on their knowledge, skills and experience to help riders become safer and more confident.”
Dyfed-Powys Police’s road safety unit will be at the show offering information and advice on BikeSafe.
The gates open at 10am and entry to the show is £7.50 each day; children under 16 free.
