At the Bluebird’s official site, Simon Glanville sees hope for Cardiff City in United’s current poor form and David Jones’ strong squad: Ross McCormack and Kevin McNaughton can’t break back into a winning first XI while Warren Feeney is fit again. Elsewhere on the site Jay Boothroyd is keen to play down the importance of a possible top spot for the Bluebirds, while Dave Jones reveals that the striker is playing through the pain of a knee problem and warns that the Blades are not to underestimated, saying: “Sheffield United haven’t been doing as well as people think they should, but every time we go there or they come to us, we’ve had hard battles.”
The Blades home page reports boss Kevin Blackwell asking the Bramall Lane faithful to get behind the team to get out of their poor run, saying: “On the back of us sustaining two losses Cardiff is even more of a big side. We need wins, we know we are under pressure, but we have lost two games on the bounce for the first time in ages and people can talk you into a crisis.” Sheffield United have just welcomed well-travelled former Premier League striker Henri Camra, but there’s no news as to whether he plays or not.
BBC Sport has Blackwell bemoaning the instability of his revolving door squad, but still wanting to buy more players, saying: “I think we’re three or four players off being a good side. That will make the difference.” They reckon Camara will feature in the squad tomorrow. The match facts show history is on the Blades’ side – Cardiff have won one in six – but recent form favours the high-scoring Bluebirds. Punters might want to pick a draw, the result at the last three clashes in Sheffield.
WalesOnline‘s Terry Phillips talks to cheery Jay Boothroyd, who says his partnership with Michael Chopra will continue to get better and reports a very happy dressing room at the Cardiff City Stadium.
The Yorkshire Post has the usual hopeful hellos from Camara, who’s on loan till the season’s end but would like to stay longer, and reckons he’s not fit enough to start yet. Blackwell’s boys are boosted however, by the return of defenders Derek Geary and Gary Naysmith and midfielder Lee Williamson.
The Cardiff page at VitalFootball is upbeat, picking out former Leeds man Matthew Kilgallon as the Blades’ top gun: “Much depends on the dynamic of the game and whether we can exploit the space and pressurise the injury-hit and under-pressure Blades,” they say. “Michael Chopra and Jay Bothroyd are key to that and if they can find a way past Kilgallon and co – a win is a realistic possibility.”
