Hundreds of wheelbase sports enthusiasts descended on Deeside Leisure Centre to take part in the Wheelbase Twenty 10 day.
Over 350 people attended from all over Flintshire with competitions throughout the day for all disciplines. Anyone over the age of eight could take part and entry was free.
Wheeled sports include BMX, skate-boarding, and in-line skating. There were also demonstrations from professionals, Jason Phelan, Tony Da Silva, Scott Ditchburn, Lee Davereux, Jamie Clegg and Owain Clegg.
Since the last Wheelbase showcase in 2003 there has been increased consultation with young people and communities and more involvement of young people in the design of skate facilities. Equipment has also been purchased and maintained at skate parks in Hawarden, Buckley, Flint and Connah’s Quay.
The Chairman of Flintshire County Council, Councillor Colin Legg also visited the event to show his support.
Alex Gray, Wheeled Sports Development Officer, Flintshire County Council, said: “The feedback was very positive from the young people and the main question was ‘when is the next one?’
“We are pleased that it was so popular and that those who took part enjoyed it.”
